Urgency of Clinic Visit
When should you book an urgent hair check-up?
These are signs you shouldn't ignore, and when you should contact us for an urgent appointment:
1. You're feeling strange or intense sensations on your scalp
-
Burning, stinging, or "pins and needles" sensation
-
Itching that doesn't go away or seems to follow a strange pattern
-
The scalp feels unusually warm, sore, or bruised, even if you haven't bumped it
These can be early signs of inflammation, which may be serious if left untreated
2. Suddenly, you're losing more hair than feels normal
-
You notice more hair in the shower drain, on your pillow, in your brush, or on the floor
-
The shedding feels more sudden than your usual amount of shedding
-
It's not just the amount - your hair feels different, weaker, or thinner
We understand that you have hair loss or shedding, but losing a large number of hairs suddenly or acutely feels like a traumatic event.
3. You spot new bald patches or thinning areas
-
You've found areas where your hair seems to be falling out in clumps
-
There's a visible difference in your hairline or crown, or affected areas
-
Hair is missing in specific patches, rather than all over
Bald patches can point to autoimmune conditions or types of alopecia that need quick attention
4. You have several symptoms happening together
-
If you're experiencing multiple things at once (e.g., itching + shedding + burning), even if each one doesn't feel severe on its own, the combination could mean something more serious is going on underneath
5. We flag something in your history
-
Sometimes, even if you're not showing severe symptoms, we may fast-track your appointment. For example, if your intake form or photos suggest a condition like scarring alopecia (which can cause permanent hair loss if untreated), we'll bring you in sooner.
The bottom line is that if your scalp is uncomfortable, your hair is acting out of character, or your gut tells you something's wrong, it's worth checking immediately, and early treatment can make all the difference.
